People(americans) say calzaghe didnt look impressive ha ha ha yeah right, how can a fighter look impressive against sombody that thought he was in the ufc ? There was more clinching form hopkins than there was in a whole ufc fight and calzaghe is supposed to look impressive? American legends suck ! lennox lewis proved it and so has calzaghe ,mayweather was lucky he didnt get his *** beat down by hatton if it wasnt for the CLINCHING

  1. I think Calzaghes fight was an enormous feat after the knockdown, Lewis was a Legend, however Hatton was beaten fair and square, in my honest opinion.

  2. calzaghe hits like a woman. i had hopkins winning 114-113. as he landed the cleaner more hurtful punches. if u tuned in after the fight and looked at both faces u would have said hopkins dominated.

  3. What is the open hostility towards Americans from Britain? The booing of the American National Anthem at the Mayweather/Hatton fight....the whole "Lennox Lewis was the greatest heavyweight ever".."Joe Calzaghe was a legend and Americans hate him"....blah blah blah. What is that? Is there just a little bit of hating going on? Do you really think Americans consider themselves that Elite against Britains...for that matter, do you think we think about you at all?

Well, Im American, and I will give you basically what I think is the general opinion.

Joe Calzaghe: If he retires undefeated, which if he takes the fight with Roy Jones, he is very likely to not only win that, but also with a knockout (If Glen Johnson could knock him out with a high volume of punches, then Calzaghe should DEBACLE Jones), then yes, absolutely he has earned a VERY DESERVED, SPECIAL spot in the boxing hall of fame. To say he wouldnt would be just stupid.

RICKY HATTON: Another issue you brought up. How about this, we all agree that Calzaghe is definitely worthwhile the hype, and that Bernard was basically more and more helpless as the fight wore on. Why dont BRITIANS admit that they bet on the wrong horse regarding Hatton? You got advance notice it was going to happen when Hatton was d*mn near seated by a journeyman in Luis Collazo...and despite the fact that Collazo took Hatton to SCHOOL, you guys still got drunk and rallied around him. But then when a REAL boxer in Mayweather not only beats him, but decisively..you blame the ref, the color of his short...Hatton had dandruff that was getting in his eyes.....how about you just cop to the fact that you bet on a lame duck...despite all evidence to tell you not to...and leave it at that.

LENNOX LEWIS: Again, no one will gripe Lewis' place in boxing history. They may question his opponents...but not his record. But...the greatest heavyweight in history? Do you know how many names you are dismissing in saying that? Why not this...just reword it to "The only British heavyweight champion worth mention..." and leave it at that. If you are going to say that Lewis is the greatest...than you are calling Hasim Rahman one of the greats too, as he did dump Lennox on his a$$. Comparing Lewis and his "collision course" with Rahman versus other heavyweight rivals...such as Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier...is beyond mental damage.

So for once...why dont we just all just say the truth and move on.

  4. Joe Calzaghe IS a legend and I hope he bows out against Roy Jones Jnr with a convincing win to write himself down in Boxing History.

  5. Yah, Hopkins fought just like Hatton did against Floyd Mayweather.  As the opponent, it was up to Calz to deal with it the same way Floyd did.  Just jam your elbow into the head butter's throat.

Besides illustrating your complete lack of boxing IQ, do you have a question?  This domain is called "Yahoo Answers" for a reason.

  6. calzaghe is a legend in my opinion, whats all this talk from the americans about danny williams getting beat by vitali, who gives a flying *** im british and i think that danny williams is the single most boring heavyweight that has lived lmao.as far as the hitman v mayweather fight i have never wanted ricky to ko someone more in all my life but the fact is he was beat by a better fighter all you americans think that if boxers dont fight in the states then they aint worth s**t. all i got to say is bollocks mate(do you know what nemesis means lmao)

  7. 45 fights and 45 wins, Joe is a legend, probably the greatest  British boxer of all time. To be perfectly honest, Calzaghe was no where near his best against Hopkins but he still done the business.

  8. yes, calzaghe joins an elite list of boxers known as the super champions linear and undisputed boxing champions. joe calzaghe- light heavyweight / super middleweight, floyd mayweather- welterweight / lightweight, bernard hopkins- light heavyweight / middleweight, oscar de la hoya- junior middleweight / welterweight, pernell whitaker- welterweight / lightweight, evander holyfield- heavyweight / cruiserweight, sugar ray leonard- middleweight /  junior middleweight / welterweight, wilfred benitez- welterweight / junior welterweight, carlos ortiz- junior welterweight / lightweight, roberto duran- welterweight / lightweight, fighting harada- bantamweight / flyweight, emile griffith- middleweight / welterweight, d**k tiger- light heavyweight / middleweight...thats just to name a few !!!

  9. I'm English but I find the accompanying statements to this question way off the mark.

Calzaghe beat Hopkins, but Hopkins displayed far more skill, power and savvy even in losing. I've been following Hopkins' career since 2000 and I've noticed a clear reduction in his workrate beginning with his fight with Robert Allen. It became really apparent in his first fight with Taylor, when he gave away most of the early rounds and left it too late to rally. With his experience, Hopkins is unlikely to have made such an error in judgement and the reason for his early inactivity against Taylor must surely have been due to awareness of his own declining stamina.

It was a similar situation in the Calzaghe fight. Hopkins landed the cleaner, harder shots and displayed more stylistic versatility than Calzaghe (in terms of head movement, for example) but just didn't have the stamina to keep up with Calzaghe's punch output, despite hurting his opponent on a couple of occasions. Calzaghe, on the other hand, almost always landed with weak, glancing blows and never had Hopkins even remotely in trouble. Hopkins' minor comeback after taking a breather following the low blow further reinforces my view that his main problem in this fight was one of stamina.

In the end, Calzaghe fought more constantly and deserved the victory. Make no mistake, however, if this fight had happened in 2001, the outcome would have been very, very different.

Moving onto your mention of Lennox Lewis, I will mention that I saw his victories during his prime as far more dominant than this victory of Calzaghe's. His loss to Rahman wasn't a lucky punch - Lewis was clearly undertrained and unprepared for the altitude and had run out of steam by the end of the fourth round. The rematch with Rahman showed that there was a huge gape in class between the two.

I don't at all think that Floyd Mayweather was lucky against Ricky Hatton. Mayweather was utterly dominant, controlling the fight on the outside and out-punching Hatton on the inside. Hatton got knocked out because he stalked Mayweather and forced him to fight rather than just put in his usual perform of hit at a distance and dance around his opponents. Hatton was simply no match for him.

  10. Hatton lost to Mayweather and Calzaghe will lose to Pavlick

  11. Lennox Lewis is not a legend, he fought mike tyson in 2002 way after mike was "Iron", mike had so many mental problems he was a shell of his former self. as for CALZAGHE...LMAO, don't get me wrong, i like the guy but he's no legend he waited until Bernard was 43 to fight him and he had what may have been his toughest match with the old B-hop. the 39 year old b-hop that fought taylor would have won that fight. Calzaghe has beaten a bunch of nobody's 2 guys from the contender tv series, jeff "left hook and thats all i got" lacey, and Mikkel Kessler who fought nobody also except calzaghe. lol. A good fighter YES, a legend NO.

And why does everyone get upset when you bring up the fact that Floyd whupped Ricky. Before the fight "their was only onnnneeee RICKY HATTON!!!" he was the best thing since sliced bread. Now all of a sudden he's a bum. But what would people be saying if Hatton had won that fight by KO??? He would be the best right? a living legend....but unfortunately he lost to man who doesn't only DEFEAT you.....he DEFAMES you. Like Roy does.

  12. I agree with u on all things said here except the hatton thing. Hatton is one of the worst clinchers ever, thats his style he clinches then fights on the inside, dont get me wrong, the ref in the hatton fight prevented hatton from fighting  in the inside in the first half of the fight but at the end of the day hatton was defeated by a superior boxer. Good call on the calzaghe fight, he never got the chance to shine cos hopkins fought dirty. Calzaghe is a legend alright and the americans will see that in his next fight.

  13. im british and by the way you idiot britain is an awful lot bigger than one american state, the whole of the usa isnt even 5 times the size of britain

  14. First of all i do not consider lenox lewis a legend and lenox lewis is NOT american lol calzaghe struggled with a 43 year old b-hop and took a knock down in round 1 the guy barely won the split decision with those weak slapping punches let calzaghe fight jermaine taylor kelly pavlick roy jones if he beats them then maybe you can repost

  15. calzaghe lost by a old hopkin very clearly, if they met just 2yrs earlier when hopkin beat tarver, then hopkin would have easily won.

I don't think calzaghe will fight pavilok because he will get beat the same way danny william did against vitali klitschko

  16. So is my friend Bernardo ..... but nobody cares about him either.... slap boxers dont do well with fans in america....

  17. NO

  18. No..."most" of his fights were against no name opponents...

remember, I said "most"...dont want some dumb dork to say..."oh yeah, well what about so and so?"
