Calzaghe landed more punches on Hopkins than anyone ever has, but why is no one pointing out that Hopkins made him miss more punches than he ever has before?

  1. Double check what Roy Jones did to him.

  2. I don't see how Bernard could have made him miss that much, since he spent most of the time right in front of Calzaghe up close.  I don't really take issue with the decision, but I do with the so-called most-punches-landed "record".  Just look at the type of "punches" he threw.  Most were slapping / pawing "flurries" - hitting with the underside of his gloves with his fists turned up.  It didn't make Calzaghe look very good in my view.

  3. who cares about missed punches, the landed ones are that count....Hopkins is an illusive fighter and make fighters missed a lot, calzague just threw a lot of punches....

  4. Punch stat numbers are pretty useless.  Every punch that isn't a jab is considered a power shot?

Bernard Hopkins was beaten far more decisively by Roy Jones, I think anyone would agree on that, even though Roy didn't land as many "punches".  Jermaine Taylor didn't land as many shots, but he hurt Hopkins a few times, lots of guys have had more success actually putting a hurt on Hopkins, they didn't land as many punches as Calzaghe.

I think Calzaghe should have thrown more hard punches than just slaps, he would have had an easier time if Hopkins thought he could hurt him, but he would have had to forfeit his new "record" of punches landed.

  5. You are really reaching, Brad!

  6. Watch the fight again, and I think you'll see that Calzaghe, as demonstrated by the Compubox stats not only landed many more scoring punches, but also landed a higher percentage of them. Maybe Hopkins landed the harder single shots (though Calzaghe got in a few, and one or two beautiful, lightning combinations), but if the fight goes the distance, every punch that lands counts. I thought it was much closer on the night, but in the cold light of day, Calzage looks the clear winner.

  7. Who cares. Hopkins got beaten by that "white boy". Great result. Maybe Hopkins will shut that big mouth of his now!!!
