  1. Well remember this fight was going to happen a while back but neither fighter wanted to leave their countries for it to happen. Both fighters are at a point where people will always say "they should have fought......". Regardless, i don't see the winner fighting pavlik because it would be unnecessary. Jones nor Joe needs pavlik to prove anything in their career. I see JC beating jones on points. besides Kelly needs to defend his title more than 1 time(Lockett, since he fought taylor at super middle in their rematch) before he starts trying to have mega fights and vacate titles

  2. At this point i don't know if Jones still has enough left to go against calzaghe,i detest joe calzaghe he is praised by the british as the best boxer yet during his prime years he never ever even thought of going against jones and hopkins when they were ruling the light heavyweight and middle weight divisions and here he comes with his british nut huggers acting like he some sort of rocky marciano and talking smack about pavlik while dodging him at the same time....i hate calzaghe in a way that i haven't  hated before, i really wish the fight with pavlik happens, hopefully pavlik will punch him right into the hall of shame with other overrated boxers heck if i had the power i would go back to when i was a child and choose boxing as a career path just so i could beat the little sh*t myself....jones is old now and honestly i don't know if jones will be able to beat valzaghe's disgusting slap rate.

(God please let the fight with Pavlik happen)

  3. I think Calzaghe will probably stop Jones.

Since Jones moved back down to Light Heavy he has been decisevely beaten by Glen Johnson(who in turn lost to Clinton Woods) and by Antonio Tarver.

Calzaghe is a far better fighter than either Tarver or Johnson, he should be able to stop Jones, who has shown a lack of mobility and punch resistance since moving back down in weight.

Some people are trotting the same old rubbish about Calzaghe not fighting Jones 7 or 8 years ago, but you could accuse Jones of the same thing in not fighting Calzaghe! Its also notable that Jones always avoided a fight with Dariusz Michalchewsi.

As Countee said, JC and RJJ dont really have anything to prove against the unproven Pavlik. He has only ever beaten one good fighter in his career (Arthur Abraham recently put Edison Miranda's credentials in stark perspective and Gary Lockett is only a fringe contender), and that was Jermain Taylor.

However, if the money was right, i feel JC might go for it, provided it was at Light Heavy.

Personally, i think he will beat Pavlik, who, as well as being unproven, has a style made for JC.

He comes forward in a straight line, is agressive, has a possibly suspect chin, is slower, less experienced, and has less variety of skills than JC.

Calzaghe has always done brilliantly against come forward fighters, his hardest bouts have been against counter punchers such as Eubank, Reid and Hopkins.

  4. calzaghe has been a true and world class champion but i think jones is a different kettle of fish from his other opponents it might be one fight to far for joe and it would be a shame . he should have taken the pavlik fight first who i think he would beat and then retire going out on top and with his fabulous record in tact

  5. Roy Jones Jr. is the best boxer who has ever lived we should be talking about Jones like people talk about Michael Jordan being the best basketball player ever I don,t agree with that but that is for another time. Calzaghe is a really good champion but he,s no Roy Jones I am picking Jones to win this fight Jones wont run and hold like Hopkins did and if Hopkins knocked him down just think what Jones will do to Calz it will be a great fight and if Jones should lose this fight I hope he retires but Roy will box rings around Calz

  6. He'll fight Jones Jr, probably win it on points and then call it a day with his record in tact. British boxing fans who aren't very well educated in Boxing recognise Jones Jr as a legitimate challenge by name only, they aren't aware that he is well past his best. In my opinion, Calzaghe has been fooling the British public for far too long and this is his final massive payday. His dismissal of Warren says a lot about how loyal Calzaghe is and what type of person he is, dismissing the promoter who has protected him for 12 years and made him what he is for the last 12 years and he dismisses him so that he can take all of the money from his final fight, what a lovely way of saying thank you to the person who has made your entire career. For the record, I'm a Brtish boxing fan, and I'm also not a fan of Warren, but I don't like at all the way that Calazaghe has handled his dismissal. His father Enzo's recent comments about Pavlik also show a distinct arrogance on the part of the Calzaghe Camp, and show that a Pavlik fight is very unlikely.

  7. I have zero impartiality on this fight, so I don't really trust my opinion as it is too biased.  I'll be praying that night for Roy to somehow channel the 1998 Jones for an hour of fighting.  My brain is saying Jones wins a decision, but I think I'm hoping more than analyzing.

  8. I think Calzaghe would win a decision over Roy Jones.  Jones in his prime would've been too much for Calzaghe, but at this stage of the game he would only have a punchers chance.  Calzaghe won't fight Pavlik unless there is a whole lot of money coming his way.  He want's to protect is undefeated record and Pavlik is very tough, very dangerous and in his prime, unlike Bernard Hopkins who gave Calzaghe a lot of trouble.

  9. i agree with dele, that calzaghe will outpoint the jones jr of today, but the jones jr in his prime would be too fast and powerful for joe.
