Cam Newton and Robert Griffin III were inspired by me, claims Michael Vick – NFL News
When Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick shared his personal experience during National Football League’s (NFL) 15th Rookie Symposium last month, every youngster was in awe.
These youngsters grew up watching Vick’s game and the veteran’s story of life that is not less than a rollercoaster ride truly inspired them.
Some rookies including this year’s second overall pick Robert Griffin III (RG3) also appreciated Vick’s presence.
After around a month when people are expecting players like RG3 to have a record-breaking season, some analysts do not consider comparing rookies with veterans as a healthy practice. However, Vick thinks that comparison is good.
Vick thinks that RG3 and Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, who had a marvellous rookie season last year, were inspired by him. He said on WLZL-FM:
"I think Cam and Robert Griffin III both were inspired by me and my play. And that's me being a trend setter, game transcending, and guys wanting to emulate one another.”
Vick said that he had also idolised many senior players while he was entering the league. The quarterback commented:
“And I think that's what it's all about. I wanted to emulate Steve Young and be just like him, and Charlie Ward, and Randall Cunningham, guys who played before me. So I think it’s a great thing.”
Meanwhile, Vick also shared his views on the competition between two great National Football Conference (NFC) East quarterbacks.
Recently, former New York Giants receiver who is a sport analyst now Amani Toomer said that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was more productive than Eli Manning, who led the Giants to winning the Super Bowl last season.
Many other analysts, players and fans believe that although Romo is a good quarterback, he cannot beat Manning. When Vick was asked about Toomer’s analysis, he said:
“C’mon Amani Toomer, really? Really?”
Mentioning that Manning has two Super Bowl rings while Romo does not eve have one, Vick added:
“I’ve got a lot of respect for Tony Romo, but I’ve got a lot of respect for Eli Manning as well.”
It will be interesting to see how NFC East performs this season in presence of Romo, Manning, Vick and RG3.
