Camas confident to win Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby Semi-final
Having been trained hard for almost a week, the O. McKenna trained white and black dog, Camas, seems to be confident enough to clinch top spot in the high-voltage race of the Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby Semi-final that is set to take place at Shelbourne
Park on Saturday night, September 1.
The open race over 550 yards is offering €250 for the one who wins. After breaking from Trap 6, the two-year-old young and energetic hound will have to cope with some arduous challenges to reserve his berth in the final game.
During the last two months, the talented son of Head Bound out of Accelerate achieved some iconic feats. After getting the runner-up rank in the SIS Open 550 on July 7, he marvelously won both the Townviewfoods.com Champion Plate Semi-final and Townviewfoods.com
Champion Plate Final during the same month. These were perhaps the mega achievements.
The dashing dog moved ahead to finish first in the Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby Round 1 Heat 2, held on August 1. He also sealed top spot in the very next outing entitled as Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby - Round 2 - Heat 13.
However, Camas could not be able to sustain his stamina, finishing second and third in the two subsequent starts. These below-par performances provoked the trainer to school his pupil for a few days.
Hopefully, Camas has fixed at least some of his fault lines and he will be able to show a convincing run in tonight’s marathon. Among his rivals, Skywalker Puma is only one who can impede him on the way.
The F. O'Donnell trained black dog has hardly stepped out of the podium in his career that began in March 2012.
During the last month, the son of Royal Impact out of Dianas Ranger beautifully won 2012 Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby Round 2 Heat 5 and 2012 Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby Round 3 Heat 8. After finishing second in his last start on August 25, he took
some hard training for a few days.
Thus, the rookie runner will try his best to block Camas, and the stern duel between these two mighty hounds is likely to give the spectators an exciting event to enjoy.
