Camas in form for dominating the Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby Round 1 Heat 2
The evening’s favourite for the Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby Round 1 Heat 2, the two-year-old, Camas, has struck a back-to-back. He is bidding for a hat-trick through the race today that will be held at the Shelbourne Park over 550 yards flat on Wednesday,
1st August. Competing for the €250 prize money are Danmar Benny, Eabhas Fantasy, Deenside Brae, Lisnakill Jack and Slick Seattle.
The black and white dog started racing just during this season and has faced a fair share of ups and downs in the short span of time. He has raced at the Shelbourne Park extensively besides Monmore.
Head Bound’s son struck a back-to-back through the second and third outing of the career without a training session. However, when he was trained over 480 metres at Monmore on 25th February, 2012, he ended third in the race that followed right
after.
It took two failures and an equivalent number of training sessions that got the O McKenna trained his winning composure back. This time around the training sessions served just the purpose they were intended for.
Camas won the Night Of Stars Open 525 at the Shelbourne Park over 525 yards on 9th June, 2012. Falling into an early pace after leashing out from the sixth gate, going wide and then taking the lead from the second spot got him the race in 28.44
seconds while winning by the margin of just half a length.
The favourite entry of the race, Tyrur Sugar Ray, settled as the runner-up after taking 28.48 seconds to win the race.
Yet again the black and white son out of, Accelerate, lost the four races that came his way after the victory. For a second time during the career, the two-year-old posted a back-to-back without the help of a training session.
He won the Townviewfoods.Com Champion Plate Final on 21st July, 2012 at the Shelbourne Park over 550 yards and won the race in 29.57 seconds with 3 ½ lengths under his belt.
Maintaining the form and looking out for competition will make him the first one through the wire tonight.
There is just one entry who is racing straight out of a training session, but is not likely to pose any serious threat.
