The Argentine feels struck by the shows of affection after he was spotted crying on the bench during the 2-2 stalemate against Catania.
Esteban Cambiasso burst into tears after he was jeered by a group of fans, as he was taken off for Andrea Poli during the 2-2 draw against Catania.
At the point of the substitution, Inter Milan were 2-0 down, and were struggling to avoid their sixth consecutive defeat.
The Argentine addressed his fans and the media through his official website, saying:
“The other night at San Siro I had an emotional reaction borne from the great love I have for my profession and it coincided with this difficult moment for Inter.”
The Nerazzurri midfielder expressed his gratitude to the fans for their tremendous support, after they saw the player break down in tears.
“I was truly struck by the many shows of affection I received over the last few days and it is pleasing for me to thank everyone who wanted me to feel their support”.
The former Real Madrid star stated that he has always put the team’s interests ahead of his personal preferences. He insisted that Inter are going through a tough time, and it is hard for the fans to fathom how deeply he feels
for the situation.
Cambiasso also blasted the media for using the incident to hurl dirt in his direction. He insisted that the media rant on the petty incident has disproved the notion that he is untouchable.
“And to respond to many trying to use this incident in the media to peddle clichés recently, nobody can ever again say I am untouchable.”
The Beneamata veteran assured that the situation is behind him, and the experience has only motivated him towards greater strength and resolve. The former Real Madrid player thanked the fans and players for their wonderful messages
and insists that it means a lot to him.
Cambiasso is in his eighth season with the Nerazzurri, having made 277 appearances for the club so far.
