Cambridge Rindge, Latin Falcons boys volleyball team defeats Westford Academy Grey Ghosts
It is not only the university level volleyball teams that are able to entertain their fans with spectacular displays of volleyball skill but the high school teams too mange to put up a thrilling performance.
An increasing number of high schools have been inculcating vigorous training programs that are aimed to hone the skill of the aspiring young athletes. These programs include regular practice sessions as well as an opportunity to participate in tournaments
that are held at the local as well as the national level.
A match of one such tournament was held on Thursday. The two teams that competed against each other were the Cambridge Rindge and Latin Falcons boys volleyball team as well as the Westford Academy Grey Ghosts. The team that emerged as victors in the first
round of the 2011 Division 1 state boys volleyball tournament were the Latin Falcons.
The contest between the two teams went on for four long and exciting sets. By the time that the Falcons had started celebrating their well earned win by thumping each other on the backs while the Grey Ghosts were vacating the courts with heads hung low,
the scoreboard narrated the happenings of the match in short, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17 and 25-21.
With their recent win, the Falcons have been able to improve their overall number of wins to 11. These victories have come at the cost of incurring losses that total to be 7. As opposed to the performance statistics of the Falcons, the overall season record
of the Grey Ghosts is only slightly better. The number of times that the Ghosts have experienced a win so far equal to be 12. These victories have been bagged at the cost of suffering losses which are 7.
The start of the first set of the match saw the Falcons assert themselves by taking an early lead. This put the pressure on the Ghosts from the beginning of the match. The Grey Ghosts kept on extending their advantage and there was not much that the Falcons
could do to stop them. As a result, the first set of the match was bagged by the Falcons at 25-20.
Having lost the first game, the Grey Ghosts came out strong in the second one by stepping up their game and giving the Falcons some tough competition. By the time the second set had ended, the ghosts had secured it at 25-22.
Unfortunately for the Ghosts, this was the only win that they were able to achieve as the next two sets were won by the Falcons at 25-17 and 25-21.
Despite having lost the match, the Grey Ghosts put up a commendable effort for which they have been appreciated.
