Question:

Camcorder for Youtube?

Hi, I'm looking at buying a video camera for youtube videos. (Rubik's cube tutorials, blogs, guitar covers, ect...)

I'm looking to spend max $200, I'm on a pretty tight budget, though I might be able to throw in another $50 if it'd REALLY make a big difference. I'd like something that plugs into my computer with a USB connection or memory card, because as of now I don't have a Fire Wire card/cable.

I'm looking at the Flip, it's $100, It's got 1GB of memory, which is more than plenty for the Youtube 10 minute limit. Does anyone have any experience with the Flip? How's the sound quality? Would you recommend it?

The only thing I don't like about it is that it's darn small, and I've always been sorta "small-camera-phobic " and I like something to hold on too that's not going to be blurring out with the slightest movement.

So, yeah, any recommendations/tips would be great.

Thanks

  1. Good chance the 'flip' won't do what you are looking for.  May be grainy, gittery and would not recommend it.

Look for a "real" video camera that uses MiniDV tapes.  You can likely find a cheap-o within your range.  You will also have to have a firewire card, but those are dirt cheap and a breeze to install.

Going this route opens up so many opportunities, otherwise, just use the video cam on your cell phone.....as that is likely the quality you woud see using a cheap 'digital'/flash based video recorder.

    Good Luck
