I really dont see why i use this website. It never works but I'm going to try again.

I have a camcorder, a sony handycam. It uses tapes but also hooks up to my computer. I have a picture package disk that does all this stuff but it doesnt say anything about uploading onto the computer.

I have a movie maker and i pretty much know how to work that, the problem is just getting it saved onto my computer.

It has USB streaming. I dont know if that would help at all. I've been trying for a long time and i really want to learn to do it because i love making the videos and now i want to edit them. Pleasepleasepleaseplease help..

*I'll give you a virtual hug or something*

  1. You need to connect the DV port on the camcorder to your computer using a firewire cable. This will most likely be a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cable.

You may need to install a firewire card. Firewire, iEEE1394 and i.Link are all the same thing.

When everything is connected, and the camcorder is in "Play/Edit" mode, MovieMaker can see the camera and import the video. Occasionally there are problems with Movie Maker doing this - just download and install WinDV

USB will not work to transfer miniDV tape based video from the camcorder to your computer. USB is for streaming and transferring still pictures from the memory card only... You already know this.
