  1. If you are not taking a computer to transfer the video off of the camcorder, you have just discovered one of the reasons some people do not like hard drive based camcorders. If you have nowhere to offload the video on the hard drive, and the hard drive is full, you stop capturing video.

Or... you could get another camcorder so when the first one is full, you start using the second one... I don't know how many more camcorders you will need.

Or you can delete video from the hard drive to make space.

I am going on holiday for a week in a couple of months. I will be using a miniDV tape based camcorder. I will be taking 24 blank tapes with me and I know there are stores where I am going in case I need more blank tape. When a tape fills, I will take it out, lock it, label it and put in another tape... And I can keep doing that... for as long as I can recharge the high capacity batteries... and keep feeding it tape. And miniDV is digital - and compresses less than the MPEG2 your hard drive uses, so I also know the video will be clearer from my camera.
