Camcorder just quit - no power

Question

I have a PV-GS50D camcorder and it is frozen in the open position with a tape in and partially down. The power just quit and no battery seems to make it better. I need to somehow get power to it so I can open the tape cartridge and determine if it is totally fried or what. Even a brand new, fully charged battery does not provide power to the unit. Please advise.
