Camcorder to computer recording - freezing?

Question

I have previously transferred from camcorder to PC, and it transferred o.k. but now I seem to have lost the programme and there is only one option which is Windows Movie Maker. It starts to transfer and seems to be using 100s of MBs to transfer and then after a while it just freezes and I lose the whole lot that has been transferring which is about 1 hour. How can I overcome this and is there a free programme that I can use to transfer?

Did your camera come with any software?? Have you checked the manufacturers support site for your camera model?? They may have some software.

I have a similar issue that I haven't been able to fix.  I believe it may be codec related.

Don't worry about movie maker freezing. Movie Maker is just slow. But,  don't worry. When it crashes, restart it up, and then they ask you if you want to get the recovered data.(Smart,huh?)

And remember 1 thing!!!!! Don't use any other programs that use a lot of computer GBs!!!! Don't open any software like Adobe Photoshop CS3. or it'll just increase the chances of it crashing.
