  1. If you perused the resolved answer section you would see you need a firewire cable to connect your camera to the firewire port of your PC. You cannot transfer video via USB!! There is a whole section devoted to this process in your manual!! If you misplaced your manual you can get one from Canon support. See the link below>>>>>>>>

  2. Make sure your battery is fresh, if you have never connected this camera to your computer then you need a firefire connection.

If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.

If your computer is new and you now have Vista, then you need to install your software and possibly look for a Vista compatible driver for you video camera.

If you were able to connect your camera in the past, then your software might be corrupt and you might need to uninstall the software through ad/remove programs and then reinstall the software.
