I'm doing some work with After Effects and Premier and need to take some footage.. Probably most CC's will be fine but what are some things I should look out for? Quality etc.. Brands?..

  1. As a General rule, the more ccd's the better.  Three is better than one, and bigger ccd' are better than smaller ones. If you have a price range, tie goes to the 3 CCD camera, or camera with 1/2 inch CCD's

My preference has always been Canon makes a better picture than others, but I don't have any empirical evidence to back that up.

  2. Bill was right on target .....take a look at quixtar.com thats where i go for everything.... if you want to buy at a good price, i 'll give you the discount code that members get so that you can get a little discound on it  :)

  3. Depends on your budget and requirements... and your computer's capabilities.

Since miniDV tape provides best available video, I will stay there:

    Standard definition camcorders:

Low end: Canon ZR950 or ZR800

    Mid: Sony HDR-HC96; Panasonic PV-GS320

    High: Sony DCR-VX1000; Canon GL2

    OMG: Canon XL2; Panasonic DVX100B

High definition camcorders (can also do standard def):

    Consumer: Sony HDR-HC7, HC9; Canon HV20, HV30

    Prosumer: Sony HDR-FX1, FX7

    Pro: Canon XHA1, Sony HVR-V1U, Z1U; Panasonic HDX200

Your computer will need a firewire port to import DV or HDV.
