1. it will have to be brought inside. it is a subtropical plant and can only survive a zone 7a winter zone 6b at best.

in the winter take inside and you will have to keep cool temps above 25, but below 50. this will make flowers develop. some people keep them at room temerature and they do bloom. they are winter bloomers so blooms should appear from december to march and should last till april or may

  2. Beautiful Plant... but not hardy for your area, so you must bring it inside for the winter...

Check out the Missouri Botanical Website listed below for all you care needs!

  3. From what I have read it is a plant more for growing zones 7-10. But some people have had success in colder zones by putting them in a nursery of some type. I have read different things about temp, as I wanted to grow it at one time. But read that it only survives to 20 degree weather. Then I read another site that says it is only hardy up to 15 degrees. Any lower and kiss it good by.

It is said to like part shade like having trees around. And would survive better if it was in a lower growing condition, than if it were up on a hill or mountain area. It is said to be the state flower for Alabama. And there is a camellia breed that is used for tea.

  4. Camellias are a southern plant. Down here they need part shade, but up there you can probably have it in full sun just fine. I think they are zone 6 plants and will not survive the winter up there. So, keep it in a pot and move it indoors in winter. Try to give it as much light as possible then.

They bloom is spring, or early winter in mild years down here.

Some fantastic blossoms, and a long bloom time. Flowers cut well, both in vases and floating in water. The plants can get 18 to 20' in time planted down here, so they will be large plants eventually.
