Camelot, Bonfire and Cavaleiro among the all-star line-up on its way to the Investec Derby
The Group 1 Investec Derby will be held at Epsom on 2nd June, 2012, with some of the best runners, who are gaining a significant amount of attention from the market.
This prestigious event will cover a distance of 1 mile, 4 furlongs and 10 yards, where a maximum of twelve runners will try to take home the money.
Among this talented line-up are Camelot, Cavaleiro, Imperial Monarch and Bonfire, who are creating most of the frenzy in the market.
Camelot, trained by Aiden O’Brien is gaining market popularity based on his victory in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket on 5th May, 2012, where he triumphed over, French Fifteen.
Despite his massive victory at Newmarket, the other runners should not under-estimated as David Stevens, who is the spokesperson for Coral explained to the press that:
"Camelot has been favourite for the Derby since his Racing Post Trophy success last autumn, and a red-hot market leader since his 2,000 Guineas win, but with the winners of Derby trials at Sandown, Chester, Lingfield and York still among the potential
Epsom opposition, we are happy to lay the favourite at odds-on."
Marcus Tregoning’s charge, Cavaleiro, looks in good shape and the trainer has expressed satisfaction over his form since he finished third, a respectable performance in the Betfred Derby Trial Stakes at Lingfield.
The son of Sir Percy, out of mare Khibraat, will be the mount for jockey Hayley Turner, who is the second female to run in the Investec Derby, Alex Greaves being the first one.
Bonfire, who is under the training of Andrew Balding, seems be gaining popularity as well, since Paddy Power has given him a 13-8 chance of winning.
The son of Manduro, out of mare Night Frolic, competed in the Group 2 Betfred Dante Stakes at York on 17th May, 2012, where he was teamed with jockey, Jimmy Fortune, and defeated, Ektihaam, by ¾ of a length.
The young runner will be mounted by Jimmy Fortune again, where he will attempt to achieve the third victory of his career in order to add to his already impressive career.
