Camelot: A destined winner on the verge to break Nijinsky’s record
Every individual, who has even minor interest in horseracing, is eagerly waiting for September 15 to see the A. P. O’Brien trained bay colt, Camelot, becoming the first legend to lift the ace title of the British Triple Crown after a gap of 42 years.
For the 36-runner St Leger Stakes, the third race of the high-Profile English event, Camelot is leading the line-up in terms of market prices but this is not enough for the three-year-old star colt to win as he will have to face some arduous challenges for
breaking the record of Nijinsky who claimed the last Triple Crown title in 1970.
Among the entries, there include many big names like Astrology, Great Heavens, Imperial Monarch and Main Sequence etc. Thus, Camelot will need to demonstrate exceptionally outstanding performance to thrive in the three-day contest that takes place between
12-15 September at Doncaster racecourse.
The Derrick Smith owned maverick horse won 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 5 and Epsom Derby at Epsom track on June 2 to make himself the hot favourite candidate for the St Leger Stakes that is poised to be the acid test of the colt’s capabilities.
Camelot is distinguished and honoured to possess 5-race unbeaten career record that is hardly visible in the recent history of the sport. Debuting in July 2011, the son of Montjeu out of Tarfah has marvellously won all of his five starts so far. Interestingly,
he has run each race with the favourite tag.
Since the start of the British Triple Crown in 1853, no more than 15 horses have accomplished the glorious title so far. After Nijinsky’s victory, only Sea The Stars managed to win the first two races of the festival in 2009 but he failed in the third one.
And now, Camelot is on going to test his luck in the Triple Crown finisher.
Most of the sport analysts believe that the St Leger Stakes will be an entertaining and exciting event as Camelot is likely to attract a large number of spectators at the venue. O’Brien is leaving no stone unturned to prepare his pupil for the mega challenge.
Let us see how the colt manages to live up to the expectations of his trainer and the punters.
