Camelot: The leading runner of GB Season 2012
With three high-class victories, a runner-up rank and a seventh spot, the A. P. O’Brien trained bay colt, Camelot, poses to be the leading flat runner of the current Great Britain season. Since the dawn of the calendar year, the three-year-old young runner
has earned £1,083,171 as prize money.
Despite all these facts, Camelot suffered a severe blow in this season by narrowly missing the grand chance to win the glorious Triple Crown title. Much to his misfortune, he failed to make history of breaking the 42-year long-held record of Nijinsky who
was the last horse to win all of the three races of the British Triple Crown in 1970.
Having won Qipco 2000 Guineas Stakes and Investec Derby, the brilliant sprinter could not be able to finish first in the Ladbrokes St Leger Stakes that went down at Doncaster racecourse on September 15.
For his outstanding track record, Camelot had gained the 2-5 favourite tag for the third and last contest of the Triple Crown, but Encke beat him by the narrow margin of ¾ length.
The unexpected failure brought immense disappointment and melancholy to the punters who had staked their money on him.
Despite such a nerve-rending damage, Camelot is still considered to be the best British runner of this season. This is a clear evidence of his inherent racing talent and natural capabilities.
The son of Montjeu out of Tarfah started his career on July 14, 2011 and beautifully won his very maiden race entitled as Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund 2yo Maiden.
Before joining the high-voltage Triple Crown race, he also grabbed the ace title of the Racing Post Trophy (Group 1) (Entire Colts & Fillies) on October 22. That contest took place at Doncaster.
As a whole, the confident colt has won 5 off 7 starts. What an awesome record. There is no denying the fact that Camelot is the player of big games. He is born to cope with arduous challenges and bag big deals. This is the class that distinguishes him from
other contemporary runners and makes him horse of the year. Live long Camelot.
