Camelot might compete in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby before attempting to claim the Triple Crown in September
Aidan O’Brien’s charge, Camelot, has proved himself to be a bright and shining star. It seems that he will be the Triple Crown winner after he seals a victory in the Ladbrokes St. Leger at Doncaster in September, 2012.
With time between now and the St. Leger on 15 September, there is a window of time present in the middle that Camelot will attempt to utilise.
The son of Montjeu, out of mare Tarfah, could enter the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh on 30th June, 2012. Entering this race is an option and it is being considered by the connections
of the talented runner.
Through the Irish Field, it was reported that Aidan O’Brien commented: "Camelot could run. We'll see how he is and what everyone thinks. We'd love to run."
Of his four career starts, the three-year-old has triumphed in all, coupled with the talented jockey, Joseph O’Brien.
The bay colt won the first leg of the Triple Crown, the Group 1 Qipco 2,000 Guineas Stakes, which took place at Newmarket on 5th May, 2012, and became eligible to achieve a feat few achieve.
Camelot tried his best and narrowly secured the victory, a neck before the N. Clement trained, French Fifteen.
He moved a step further to qualify for the Triple Crown, when he won the Group 1 Investec Derby, which Camelot sealed in a magnificent manner on 2nd June, 2012, at Epsom, where he raced as a favourite with winning odds of 8
to 13.
With his jockey, Camelot excelled in the final stages of the race as he picked up speed and crossed the wire unthreatened by the rest of the competition. Camelot finished 5 lengths before runner-up, Main Sequence, who was mounted by rider, Ted Durcan.
With these two mega-victories, Camelot is now eligible for the Triple Crown and if he succeeds, he will be the first runner to take home the big prize in four decades since the last runner was Nijinsky, who claimed the crown in 1970.
