Camelot set to fire in Qipco 2000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket
Camelot is likely to continue his winning journey and seal the top rank in the Qipco 2000 Guineas Stakes, taking place at Newmarket on Saturday, May 5th.
Aidan O´Brien has won this race five times in the last 14 years. The champion handler is all set to add another win to his tally, as his trainee, Camelot, is in great shape at the moment.
The 3-year-old made his debut with a huge bang in July last year. After seizing the top place in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund 2yo Maiden, the dashing colt went on to clinch another comprehensive win later
that year.
The Racing Post Trophy saw him outsmarting Zip Top by two and a quarter lengths. Although he will be in action after quite a while, one can expect him to come up with a flawless performance and strike his hat-trick.
The maverick runner does not have much time to complete his preparations, as the party is about to begin. According to the plan, the 1-mile event will be started at 15:10 GMT. One and a half dozen runners are all set to unleash
their talent in pursue of a huge cash prize worth £213,513.
Their names are: Camelot, Abtaal, Born To Sea, Trumpet Major, French Fifteen, Power, Top Offer, Fencing, Hermival, Caspar Netscher, Bronterre, Talwar, Coupe De Ville, Red Duke, Boomerang Bob, Redact, Saigon and Ptolemaic.
Abtaal is also raring to go. At the start of last month, the bay colt made his seasonal debut, securing the runner-up place in the Prix Djebel at Maisons-laffitte. J-C Rouget’s trainee would be a huge threat to Camelot, only
if he improves his work significantly.
Born To Sea seems to be another major player. After a couple of fine efforts last year, he went on a vacation. Let’s see how he manages things on his return today.
Trumpet Major is a last-time-out winner. Novae Bloodstock Insurance Craven Stakes saw him topping the chart by five lengths at Newmarket. Power was also impressive last time around. So, he is expected to give a hard time to
his stable mate, Camelot.
Camelot is hot favourite, but there is no shortage of alternatives. According to our calculations, Trumpet Major and Power would turn things in their favour.
