Camelot succeeds in High Chaparral European Breeders' Fund Mooresbridge Stakes
Camelot landed successful in the High Chaparral European Breeders' Fund Mooresbridge Stakes (Group 3) at Curragh in Ireland on Monday, May 6, 2013. He was rated as the outright favourite to succeed and did not disappoint his team at all in the end.
The bookmakers had shown immense confidence in the abilities of the young challenger, who was given a general price of 1 to 3. This clearly suggested that no one else was expected to give him a tough time in the race. Therefore, the punters also gambled
a lot of bets in his favour and would have been pleased with the overall outcome.
Despite being the hot favourite to win the race, Camelot did not find things to be easy in the opening stages of the race. However, he stayed relaxed until the final few moments and pushed at the right time.
It appeared that the talented colt was just playing games with the rest of the runners, as he waited and allowed them an opportunity to gain some advantage. As soon as the finish line approached, he pressed hard and secured a comfortable victory by almost
two lengths.
Overall, he has only dropped out of the top three once in his career, which shows that he is quite a tough competitor. He doesn’t let his rivals dictate terms and always challenges them for top positions. He has participated in a total of eight races until
now, winning six of them whereas finished as a runner up once.
This clearly indicates that Camelot is a fantastic performer and always gives his 100 percent, when he is out on the track.
“Joseph said the horse is 70 per cent fit. When a horse has major surgery like he had during the winter you never know if they are going to come back but he showed that he retains his speed and ability,” said his trainer Aidan O'Brien.
He added, “Although he won over a mile and a half a couple of times last year we will keep him at a mile and a quarter and come back here for the Tattersalls Gold Cup and then the plan was to go to the Prince Of Wales but we will take it one step at a time.”
