Camelot to make a comeback in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at Curragh
The Aidan O’Brien trained, Camelot, is attracting significant media attention as he is bound to compete in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby on 30th June, 2012.
The undefeated son of, Montjeu, will be risking his undefeated record in this race at the Curragh that covers a distance of 1 mile and 4 furlongs. With four victories in four starts, the young runner is being watched very closely.
Camelot’s undefeated record is not the only reason why he is an interesting prospect, with his victory in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas Stakes, and the Group 1 Investec Derby, he is on his way to become the British Triple Crown winner since, Nijinsky,` claimed
the title in 1970.
Of course in order to win the Triple Crown, the three-year-old colt has to complete the final stage of the process, and win in the St. Leger Stakes at Doncaster in September, 2012.
This race will serve as a good practice run for the bay colt, who will aim to claim the Triple Crown. His stamina will be tested as he will compete against some of the best around.
The young runner foaled by Tarfah, will compete against his own stable-mates, such as Learn, Astrology, Daddy Long Legs, Father Of Science and Imperial Monarch.
Speaking Of Which, trained by Dermot Weld, also has an entry and things are looking up for him based on his victory in the Group 3 Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh.
Trainer John M. Oxx will try to raise the level of competition in the event, since he has entered Akeed Mofeed, Born To Sea, and Call To Battle.
Akeed Mofeed, son of Dubawi, out of mare Wonder Why, will be making his seasonal debut, since he last competed in September, 2011, when he finished as a runner-up to, David Livingston, by half-length in the Group 2 Juddmonte
Beresford Stakes at the Curragh.
Returning to this track may give him an advantage over the other runners based on his previous experience.
Call To Battle, son of King´s Best, out of mare Dance The Classics, claimed a solid third place in the Group 3MBNA Chester Vase at Chester on 10th May, 2012, where he lost by 1 ½ lengths to Mickdaam, and finished as a runner-up.
