Camelot’s performance anxiously awaited in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh
The Aidan O’Brien trained, Camelot, is attracting everyone’s attention as he is on his way to the Curragh to compete in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby on 30th June, 2012, where he will run over the distance of 1 mile and 4 furlongs.
The undefeated son of Montjeu, out of mare Tarfah, has claimed victories in all the starts that he has competed in. He maintained the status of race favourite in all four starts, and delivered exceptional performances each time.
The three-year-old landed a victory over, French Fifteen, in the 1 mile Group 1 Qipco 2,000 Guineas Stakes (204th Running) (British Champions Series) at Newmarket on 5th May, 2012.
The bay colt maintained his composure in the Investec Derby at Epsom and claimed a victory over, Main Sequence, by a margin of five lengths.
With these victories, the Derrick Smith owned runner is aiming to become the first Triple Crown winner if he manages to claim the St. Leger Stakes at Doncaster in September, 2012.
The undefeated colt will be coupled with rider, Joseph O’Brien, who has guided him to all his victories.
Aidan O’Brien is also including, Astrology, who will be teamed with Seamie Heffernan, and Imperial Monarch, who has been paired with jockey, Colm O'Donoghue.
Learn, Daddy Long Legs, and Father Of Science also hold entries, but it has not been confirmed if they will run.
Camelot will not have an easy race since he is up against, Akeed Mofeed, and Born To Sea, both of whom are trained by John M. Oxx.
Akeed Mofeed, owned by Jaber Abdullah has not raced since September 2011, and some questions were raised about his form since his seasonal reappearance has been delayed. The trainer assured the press that the runner faced a setback and is now in good form.
Rider William Buick will be aboard the son of Dubawi, out of Wonder Why, while Born To Sea will be ridden by jockey, Johnny Murtagh.
Born To Sea, owned by Christopher Tsui, recently competed at Royal Ascot in the Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes (British Champions Series), and finished in fourth place.
This was not a complete disgrace as he missed the victory by 2 lengths to, Most Improved
