Question:

Camera Problem: Lens Error?

by  |  earlier

I have a Nokia coolpix Camera. I dropped it and ever since then when I turn it on it says 'lens error' and the lens won't come out. We took it in and they said we would have to pay more to fix it than it would cost to buy a new camera, but I'm just making sure there's no way to fix it just at home, because sometimes places aren't always 100% truthful.

Anyone know how to fix it?

  1. It probably is junk.  I had a camera I dropped and broke then lense.  When I tried turning it on, it go stuck.  I was able to nudge it to the side so it could extend all the way out.  You might try this, but it will probably end up being more trouble than it's worth.  It's time to buy a new camera.

  2. How old is the camera?  If it's still under Nikon's (not Nokia, unless they're using Nikon's Coolpix line name) warranty, send it in to them.  If it's out of warranty, then yeah, it's time to buy a new camera.  If you feel like playing with a dead camera, you can Google "Nikon lens error", and some fix-it-yourself sites might come up.  I know they do with Canon.

Disclaimer: If you try to fix your camera, and it breaks, it's not my fault.  Or the website that you visited's fault. :)

  3. omg that happened to my camera to! and it sucked because i dropped it when i was on vacation so i didnt really get to take pictures =( but yeah wait a while! my camera would just take really zoomed in pictures but with in a month and a half it fixed its self =]!! good luck

  4. It would indeed cost more to fix it than to get a new one. Unfortunately, it's such a common problem that regular warranty won't cover accidental drops and moisture. You have to buy an accidental insurance for that, that cost about 30-50% of the camera.  Since, you're not going to get it fixed, and pay a lot of money, and it's useless now - you can try to sort of fix it yourself by using a pin or something really thin and strong to move the lens.  Turn off and on the camera, when you turn it on, try to pry the lens with a pin opened, and see if you can make the lens to come out. If it comes out, turn it off and on to see if it is working normally. Otherwise, put it in a frame with a nice background, and you just created art. Good luck!

  5. no it is not fixable yourself. dont try it or your gonna make it worse. you really only have 2 choices in this matter...pay to have it fixed or buy a new one.
