Camera Quality?

Question

I'm looking at phones and it's a toss beteween two. I love using the camera on my phone and this is a deciding feature for me.

Which is better... a 2mp camera or a 1.3mp camera?

Also, is there much difference between the two because my mind is swaying towards the 1.3mp...

the higher the MP of a camera, the more dots of colour make up the picture, so the higher the MP the better quality the picture will be

You will not notice much difference based on pixels. In fact it is possible for the 1.3MP to provide better pictures than the 2MP. There is more to picture quality than the pixel count.

For those of you who think more pixels = better pictures, that is simply not true. You could have a 20 MP camera but without a good sensor the picture will suck. the quality and sensitivity of the sensor as well as the quality of the lense all play a part. Some sensors introduce noise others do a poor job of recording color. This applies to all digital cameras. Finally, if you are viewing 1.2 and 2 MP pictures on a small cellphone screen (which again makes a difference e to the quality you see) then you will not notice the difference. If you want to print the pictures then more pixels is better especially if you want to blow up the size.

Don't buy a camera phone for photographs. Buy a camera for photos.

Try and see the pictures the phone takes

I had a 1.3 Mp Kodak camera which was fine , but I had a 1.3 Mp phone that was atrocious

The greater the number of pixels the better , but look for a quality lens , flash  and image stabilisation if possible . I got a Samsung U600 that has a 3.2 megapixel camera as is generally a match for my 3.2 Mp Olympus camera
