  1. If you are going after a Nikon, I suggest you buy the higher end models such as the p80 or p60. A better choice would be from the line of Canon, Fujifilm, and Panasonic Lumix line of cameras.

You could never go wrong with a canon- it offers good reliability and good image quality. The best product from Canon would be the G9. Its jpeg output is unrivaled and it features full manual control over your settings. Its "retro" design, however, may put off a few potential buyers looking for something "sleek and stylish."

Panasonic offers wide angle lenses in all of its models- a huge plus for landscape photography or group shots when there isn't much room. They also feature the renowned leica lenses. Noise is also much improved from the last generation.

Fujifilm, though not often mentioned as a "brand name", offers the most bang for the buck. The f100fd has one of the best image quality I've seen in a compact, giving even the Canon G9 a run for its money. In the end, these are all great contenders in the camera market and it all comes down to personal preference.
