okay first off I own a kodak Digital camera with 6.1 mega pixels. It takes pictures really well for action, landscape and so forth. I was wondering would it be smart then to get a Nikon camera? I just got into cameras as of this month as my friend and I go on this website wunderground.com and its for people who just like to take pictures of outdoors and there pets outdoor and my friend and I are looking into Nikon cameras, I was wondering is the camera I have now good enough or is a Nikon better? Photography is just a hobby not a job to let you know so its not going to be used for work or anything just for fun. Thanks!

  1. Take one of your SD cards to the store that sells them and test the Nikon that interests you.  Test at the lenses extreme zoom positions, high and low ISO's and other features.

Then go home and put the images on your computer and compare those images and those from your Kodak ... then you will know.  Making decisions using your large monitor will be more reliable.

  2. Has your Kodak camera ever not been able to do a picture that you wanted? Has it ever made you feel limited or held back?

If not, there's no reason to get a new camera. Salespeople will want to tell you that buying a new camera will magically get you better pictures. That's not true. You get better pictures through practice, practice and more practice. When you've mastered your camera and begin to wish it could do more because your skill has advanced beyond the abilities of your camera, then you're ready to go shopping for a new one.
