Question:

Camera To Mac Video Importing Problem!?

Ok so I recorded footage on this Mini DV tape. When I played it back it looked fine. But when I imported it (onto a Mac w/firewire), it was all jumpy and skipping just a little bit.

I forgot and recorded my school documentary project on the same tape. It all looks fine when I playback on the camera, but I'm worried that when I import it its gonna skip.

So is there any other way to import if the regular, firewire way makes it jump?

  1. From miniDV tape based camcorders, DV over firewire to the Mac's firewire400 port is it. iMovie and FinalCut will recognize only the firewire port for incoming video.

It sounds like this tape has been used several times. Don't do that. I have been recording standard definition and high definition video for over 6 years and have never had the symptom you report on over 400 miniDV tapes because I never re-use tapes. Reusing tapes is never a good idea. What you are seeing are called "drop outs". This happens when you re-use tapes.

    Good luck.
