Camera for a beginner?

I want to get into photography, because I've always loved taking pictures. My problem is that I can't find a camera. I'm not wanting to get a professional camera with a whole bunch of lenses and stuff because I know I don't want to get that serious yet. I just need something to expirement with right now. I'm looking for a DSLR or something like that. Plus I need it to be affordable. Not some 700 dollar camera, that I don't need.

nikon d40 or d40x is a good camera for your needs, but a lot of stores don't sell the nikon d40x anymore they replaced it with the nikon d60.

The d40 is around 400-500

the d60 is around 500-600

You could always get a used camera on craigslist, just look for people selling stuff where you live or near you.

Take a look at the Canon A-590IS. It can be used as a point and shoot on full auto. Or you can go into manual mode and get creative and learn how shutter speed, ISO,and apeture work together. All for a very reasonable $159 on sale. But you will want 4 AArechargeable batteries a charger and a 1 GB SD card so add $30. I have one and it is a very good camera for the price. Google it and see what others have to say about it.

I can recommend Sony A200 (dslr) for 500.00 usd, but if not wanting to spend that much get the Canon powershot is720 (I bought 3 for my Mom, brother and sister!..

The Canon is720 takes really good pics, and has macro, video and some manual modes to be creative!..It's a nice camera with 8mp and 6X zoom!..
