I was using it one day, and it cut off.. i thought it went dead, i tried to turn it back on to put the lens back in, but it would turn on, then immediately turn back off. I bought some new batteries for it, and put it in hoping it was just because it was dead. But it did the same thing. Turned on, a red light flashed a few times, then it turned back off.. & the lens is STILL out. I know they were the right batteries, because it said it could use the double A lithium batteries. Is this fixable in any way? Or do i need a new camera?

If it's stuck with the lens out and turns itself off immediately when you try to start it, there's a good chance that the lens got bumped and it's mechanism is jammed.

That's why the camera turns itself off every time.  It's protecting the circuitry against overloading because the motor is trying to spin but the jammed lens won't let it.

It may be fixable.  But it has nothing to do with batteries.

Look carefully at the lens from both sides, top and bottom.  I'll bet you'll see that it doesn't look quite straight.

These are plastic gears and tiny, tiny motors.  They're not hard to jam up.

I had the same problem.  The information at the source link helped me solve the problem.  You should have no problem if you get the batteries charged and contacts clean.  The link will tell you how to clean the  electrical contacts.

The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between the batteries and the camera.

Digital cameras require lots of power. If electrical contacts are not really good, this can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly.  Batteries may have a full charge, but will be viewed by the camera as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD display is a low steady load, but with extending the lens, focus, optical zoom, and flash charging in the capture mode; it is like starting a car.  With bad contacts the camera can do strange things like shutting off with the lens out.

GREAT HINTS   Most cameras will reset or restore if batteries are removed for at least one minute.  Insert batteries again and restart the camera.  Remove extra memory to eliminate this as a possible camera problem.  If all else fails, read and follow all camera instructions.
