Hi

could i trade in my Nikon D40 and D70s for a Nikon D200 or D300

  1. You will probably do better selling the camera privately rather than trading it in. Retailers don't give very good allowances on used equipment because they have to try and resell it at a profit, so they don't give you what it's really worth.

    If you can afford it, go for the D300! It is Nikon best camera going if you are using DX glass!


  2. That sounds reasonable for a D200.

    Here's the average selling prices for used gear at keh.com:

    D40 $400

    D70s $500

    D200 $900

    The D300 costs $1600 retail at b&h, beachcamera, and other places.

    Buying this model second hand doesn't make much sense yet.

    The prices at keh.com can go slightly up, or down by as much as $100 per camera depending on its condition. And they offer less money when buying gear... they do want to make a profit. So it's unlikely that you can just walk into a camera store and make this exchange, but it does seem that you can make an even trade with some patience on Craigslist.org or eBay.
