  1. The shot where you follow someone is often done with a dolly.  Have a look at the link  - there's some good stuff there.

Sorry, I didn't realise you have to pay for the plans!  There's a lot of info on DIY dollys on the web though.

  2. actually you can practice by locking the tripod arm as much as you can and putting that on your shoulder and close the legs up.  I've found it works as a poor man's steadycam.  I've used that and i've ended up with some really nice smooth shots.  basically you just need to really be creative.  The less you have then the more creative you'll have to be, and overall you'll be better for it cause when you do get to use the big toys, you'll need a lot less and spend less of your budget.

  3. Camera tricks? like what?

As far as stabilizing... you can make one...

Keep in mind there is a reason the good ones are expensive. A lot of research went into their design and the materials are really good.

You can also try putting a light (1 or 2 pound) weight at the bottom of a tripod or monopod leg and use your arm a lot more. The counterbalance of the weight will help stabilize - but it can get pretty heavy after a while...

If you need really lengthy shot, the camera-vest systems and articulated arms connected to them (which hold the camera) can get expensive.

Another thing you can try - and this presumes the floor is VERY flat and smooth - is have someone push you and the camcorder in a wheelchair. "Office" chairs don't work very well because the wheels are so small. Also, a flat cart like

works (I use one - and it carries all my equipment or me with the camera on a tripod - but someone needs to push you very smoothly and gently on a good, smooth, flat surface.)
