Camera video freezes in Windows Movie Maker?

I got a new camera for xmas and i can film videos on it, so i decide to test it out cos im a youtube vblogger, made a short video on my camera, uploaded it to my pc and it worked fine, but when i try and upload video onto windows movie maker on my laptop, the video freezes but the audio carries on playing

any ideas? i checked both the versions of WMM on my laptop and computer and they are exactly the same

  1. video format may not be supported by wmmaker.

    - convert format to avi or wmv (try super or prism)

    or try:

    Download codecs to wmmaker automatically=>  wmm/Tools/General/Options -> put a chk on auto-download codecs ... specifies that wmmaker attempts to download codecs automatically when you choose to import a video or audio file where codec is not installed. If appropriate codec is found @ Microsoft Web site,  codec is downloaded &installed silently w/o any user intervention.To install codecs manually, you must have the appropriate Administrator permissions.
