Cameron Horne’s Team Elliott clinches 2012 Champion of Champions regatta – Sailing Update
Champion of Champions regatta 2012 was hosted and organised by the Royal Akarana Yacht Club where Platu 25 keelboats participated to claim the ultimate glory. The Championship had 11 scheduled races where seven teams participated on the Waitemata Harbour
race course. The regatta has a great history that goes beyond 20 years and has featured Champions like Chris Dickson, Rod Davis and Russell Coutts.
The participating teams were quite determined to make their run the most impressive one as they launched their boats into the Waitemata Harbour. The opening day of the regatta brought impressive sailing conditions for the participants who were ready to give
their best for the ultimate Championship title.
The weather conditions over the race course were moderate with some higher winds which did not trouble the sailors and they were able to complete the scheduled races on time.
Taking advantage of the ideal wind conditions and with some classy sailing display, Cameron Horne’s Team Elliott was able to hit the leading podium of the regatta from the beginning which paid them well as they clinched the 2012 title. Horne and his crew
which includes Grant McKinnon, Andrew Clarke, Phil Quinn and Andy Robertson sailed well to ensure their success.
While speaking to the media after winning the regatta, Horne said that they had a fantastic regatta and he, as a skipper of the team, is pretty happy to be the revived Champion of Champions. He appreciated his crew members and their efforts as he believes
without their hard work, their success would not have been possible.
He believes that the regatta went brilliantly from the beginning and proved a tremendous finish for the team. He also hoped that they will give their best next season and retain their title.
