Cameron MacKinnon and Julia Garnet wins at 2011 Giro Di Burnaby- BC Superweek
H&R Block team’s Cameron MacKinnon showed his good effort and won the 2011 Giro Di Burnaby Race on Thursday, July 14 in Burnaby.
A former Pan Am Games track champion took a total of 1 hour, 12 minutes and 51 seconds to cover the distance. Bailey Mcknight of Trek Red Racing p/b Mosaic Homes was the runner-up.
His team-mate, Justin Kerr, was in the third place and Ryan Anderson of Spider Tech p/b C10 finished fourth with a difference of 1 second.
Tommy Nankervis (RealCyclist.com Pro Cycling), TeamMichael Smith Larsen (Socalcycling team) and Reid Mumford (Kelly Benefit Strategies-OptumHealth) were in fifth, sixth and seventh places, respectively.
A group of 23 cyclists crossed the finish-line, while Dan Skinner (Trek red truck racing) was in good form and tried his best to catch the leading cyclists, but failed and grabbed the 27th place with a difference of 10 seconds ahead of Mike Rothengatter
and Kyle Buckosky.
A group of 20 cyclists including, David Stephens (Garneau Evolution), Zack Garland (Team H&R Block), Colter Young (Rideokanagan.com pb Norco) and Stephen Ferris (Calgary Cycle/TOP GEAR) were disqualified from the race.
A group of six cyclists made their first breakaway which included Cameron MacKinnon, Bailey McKnight, Justin Kerr, Ryan Anderson, Tommy Nankervis and Michael Smith Larsen. All of them worked together in order to take advantage of the lead.
In the women's Category, Julia Garnet of Trek Red Truck Racing p/b Mosiac Homes also showed her good effort at 2011 Giro Di Burnaby on Thursday, July 14.
The 19-year-old Julia took a total of 54 minutes and 50 seconds to cover the distance of the race. Jenny Lehman of Local ride racing/Dr.Vie Superfoods+ was in second place with 44 seconds behind Julia.
Karlee Gendron of Trek Red Truck Racing finished in the third spot with a difference of 2 minute and 9 seconds ahead of Shailie Sanbrooks.
Jasmin Glaesser (Local Ride Racing/Dr. Vie Superfoods+), Kristine Brynjolfson (Trek Red Truck Racing p/b Mosaic Homes) and Krista Rawlings (Mount Royal Bagel Factory/Edelweiss Granola) were in fifth, sixth and seventh places, respectively.
On the fourth lap of the stage, Garnet ranaway from the pack with the Local Ride Racing team's Jenny Lehmann where both of them build a lead. However, in the final lap Garnet increased her pace and crossed the finish line ahead of the other cyclists.
