Cameron Maybin sparks as San Diego Padres defeat Florida Marlins 5-3 – MLB Update
San Diego Padres’ centre-fielder, Cameron Maybin had a notable day with the bat as he scored two runs and went 4-for-5 with an average of .277 in the Padres’ 5-3 victory over the Florida Marlins at Sun Life Stadium, Florida on July 21.
The Padres smashed three runs in the first inning and got a 3-0 lead. Jason Bartlett singled off right-field and Will Venable scored a single run. The second and third run was taken by Bartlett and Maybin, respectively, when Jesus Guzman doubled off deep
right-field. In the second inning, Kyle Phillips struck-out looking, Venable struck-out swinging and Bartlett popped out to second base without any run.
In the third inning, the Padres raised their lead 4-0 by posting one run. Orlando Hudson drove a single-run shot towards right-field and Maybin added one run to the Padres’ score-card. In the fourth inning, the batters from both teams looked powerless and
were struck-out on tricky pitches.
The Padres’ starter, Dustin Moseley pitched well as he threw six innings with an ERA of 3.19 and gave up three runs on five hits. He did not allow any walk to the Marlins’ batters and was able to strike-out just two batters on his 83 pitches.
At the top of the fifth inning, the Padres rallied to extend their lead as Bartlett posted one run when Chris Denorfia walked and Hudson moved to second base. On the other hand, the Marlins contributed three runs to cut their deficit 5-3, at the bottom of
the fifth inning.
Maybin said, “To sweep these guys, it definitely means a lot to me. I've got so many buddies over there. They have been talking trash the whole time, but I do honestly love all those guys.”
Emilio Bonifacio singled off centre-field, Mike Stanton scored one run and Brett Hayes occupied second base. The second and third runs were taken by Bonifacio and Hayes when Omar Infante tripled towards deep right-field. The last four innings of the game
went without any score for both sides.
The Marlins missed the scoring opportunities in the ninth inning when Dewayne Wise struck-out swinging, Ben Petersen lined out to short-stop position and Hayes struck-out swinging without providing any run to his team. With this impressive win, the Padres
were able to sweep the Marlins in the three-game series played at Florida.
