Cameron McEvoy captures Boys 100m freestyle gold title - Australian State Teams Age SC Championships
Cameron McEvoy of Queensland captured the gold medal of Boys 100m freestyle final in the 16-17 years old age category on second day of the 2011 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships on Sunday, September 18, at the Australian
Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra.
McEvoy presented a dominating swim in the freestyle discipline and claimed the gold medal of the event, by reporting in a new age group mark of 48.45 seconds. His effort was 0.64 seconds ahead of previous title holder, Te Haumi Maxwell of New South Wales,
who posted a time of 49.09 seconds in 2010.
The gold medallist was trailed by his team-member, Regan Leong, who remained 0.19 seconds slower than McEvoy and clocked a time of 49.64 seconds for silver medal. The third spot of the race was obtained by Hugo Morris of New South Wales, who was nearly 1.50
seconds slower than his preceding swimmer and stepped on the podium for bronze medal with a timing of 51.26 seconds.
The podium finishers were trailed by Ewan Bennett of Victoria, who was only 0.11 seconds slower than the bronze medallist and submitted a fourth ranked time of 51.37 seconds. Similarly, Bennett was chased by Andrew Digby of Queensland, who settled on the
finishing wall as the fifth position holder with a timing of 51.44 seconds.
In the meantime, Digby managed a lead of 0.26 seconds over his closest competitor and Morris’s team-mate, Nichole Rispoli, who completed his swim in a time of 51.80 seconds for sixth place. Ben Schreiner of Victoria transpired as the seventh finisher of
the two-lap event, as he remained only 0.03 seconds behind his preceding swimmer and ended his swim in a time of 51.83 seconds. The event ended after the eighth fastest effort of Hayden Lewis of South Australia, who touched the finishing wall to post a time
of 52.05 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the laudable efforts of contestants, while the winners received medals for their immaculate efforts after the completion of the session.
