Cameron McEvoy captures Men’s 200m freestyle title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Cameron McEvoy of Australia captured gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on day two of the final stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Sunday, November 11.
The Australian swimmer faced tough contest from his following swimmer from the beginning but with his persistent efforts, he managed to occupy the title.
McEvoy was only a touch ahead of his closest competitor and surfaced on the wall for gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 43.40 seconds.
The champion was followed by Darian Townsend of South Africa, who stayed 0.10 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 43.50 seconds for silver medal.
Townsend was chased by Tommaso D’Orsogna of Australia, who was 0.74 seconds slower and stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 44.24 seconds.
D’Orsogna was traced by Jarrod Killey of Australia, who stayed only 0.04 seconds slower from reaching the podium. Killey stayed only an inch ahead of his closest competitor and concluded his race in fourth place by posting an effort of 1 minute and 44.28
seconds.
Subsequently, the fourth position holder was chased by Robert Hurley of Australia, who remained 0.17 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and appeared on the finishing end as fifth fastest swimmer with a timing of 1 minute and 44.45 seconds.
Hurley was followed by Matthew Stanley of New Zealand, who was half a body length slower from his former finisher and clocked a time of 1 minute and 45.02 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh spot of the event was secured by Ieuan Lloyd of Great Britain, who was 0.86 seconds apart and reached the finishing wall for seventh spot with an effort of 1 minute and 45.88 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Dominik Meichtry of Switzerland, who stayed 0.34 seconds slower from his former finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 46.22 seconds.
Furthermore, McEvoy was overjoyed with his top finish in the race and raked medal at the prize distribution ceremony.
