Cameron McEvoy clinches Boys 100m freestyle title: Day six – 3rd World Junior Championships
Cameron McEvoy of Australia clinched the title of Boys 100m freestyle on day six of the 3rd World Junior Championships, organised by the Federation Internationale De Natation (FINA) on Sunday, August 21, in Lima, Peru.
McEvoy appeared as the most dominant swimmer for the gold crown of the event, as he ended his swim in a fastest time of 50.16 seconds. The Australian swimmer, who qualified as the fastest swimmer into the final by posting a time of 50.08 seconds, presented
a 0.08 seconds slower swim in the final round, but was able to win the gold medal. His time was 0.10 seconds slower than the championship mark of 50.06 seconds, made by Luca Dotto of Italy in 2008. He was 3.25 seconds slower than the world mark set by Cesar
Cielo Filho of Brazil, who clocked 46.91 seconds at the 2009 Rome World Championships.
The Australian was trailed by Dmitry Ermakov of Russia and Pawel Werner of Poland, who were engaged with each other for the second fastest spot of the swim. They were only 0.30 seconds behind the champion and reached the podium for the silver medal, with
a same timing of 50.46 seconds.
Giacomo Ferri of Italy was only 0.02 seconds slower than the silver medallists and ended up fourth, by submitting a time of 50.48 seconds. He was chased by Seth Stubblefield of United States, who remained 0.18 seconds slower than the Italian swimmer and
occupied fifth position of the event, with a timing of 50.66 seconds.
Luke Peddie of Canada was the sixth position holder of the event, as he reported in a sixth finest time of 51.09 seconds. He was followed by Aleksandr Klyukin of Russia, who earned the seventh best spot with a timing of 51.17 seconds. Uvis Kalnins of Latvia
was the eighth finalist of the event, as he posted a time of 51.49 seconds.
McEvoy was overjoyed with his title winning effort, while the winners were invited on the podium for their medals after the championship.
