Cameron McEvoy conquers Men’s 100m freestyle semi-finals – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Cameron McEvoy of Southport Olympic Swimming Club conquered the semi-finals of Men’s 100m freestyle on day four of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Saturday, September 15.
The 18-year-old McEvoy spoiled the party of his competitors in the four-lap freestyle discipline as he occupied the fastest qualification spot of the race. He faced tough competition from his following swimmer but managed to outperform him over the finishing
blockade for first position.
With his commendable pace, McEvoy remained one stroke faster from his subsequent rival and transpired into the playoff as top fastest swimmer with a timing of 47.23 seconds.
McEvoy was followed by Kyle Richardson of Chandler, QLD, who stayed 0.31 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall as second best finisher by submitting a time of 47.54 seconds.
Richardson was followed by Tommaso D’Orsogna of West Coast, WA, who stayed 0.15 seconds apart and hit the wall with an effort of 47.69 seconds for third best position.
Fourth best qualifying position of the race was obtained by Matthew Abood of Cranbrook, who stayed 0.12 seconds slower and touched the wall with a timing of 47.81 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth best qualifying position of the event was obtained by Kenneth To of Trinity Grammar, who stayed only 0.03 seconds slower from his former finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 47.84 seconds.
The 20-year-old To was trailed by Andrew Digby of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, who remained 0.39 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall as sixth best finisher by producing a time of 48.23 seconds.
Digby enjoyed an advantage of 0.06 seconds over Andrew Abood of Cranbrook, who occupied seventh best spot of the event by submitting a time of 48.29 seconds.
Abood was traced by Alexander Graham of St Kevins, VIC, who remained only 0.01 seconds slower from foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 48.30 seconds for eighth best spot.
McEvoy was delighted with his top qualifying effort in the 100m discipline and said that he would try hard to continue the same in final round.
