Cameron McEvoy wins Men’s 100m freestyle semi-final: Day five – 2011 FINA World Junior Championships
Day five of the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships saw an impressive splash of Cameron McEvoy and Rachel Kelly in competitive swimming semi-finals in Lima, Peru, on Saturday, August 20. The session of the meet conducted Men’s 100m freestyle and Women’s
100m butterfly semi-final events.
Cameron McEvoy of Australia won the Men’s 100m freestyle semi-final heat with a winning mark of 50.08 seconds. Giacomo Ferri of Italy was placed second in a time of 50.61 seconds, while Dmitry Ermakov of Russia rounded out the top three in a time of 50.63
seconds. Seth Stubblefield of United States finished fourth in a time of 50.79 seconds, whereas, Luke Peddie of Canada settled fifth in a time of 50.92 seconds.
In the corresponding race, Pawel Werner of Poland was placed sixth in a time of 50.94 seconds and Aleksandr Klyukin of Russia earned seventh position in 51.09 seconds. Brazil’s Arthur Filho Mendes and Latvia’s Uvis Kalnins settled in a tie for eighth place
with a matching time of 51.14 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Women’s 100m butterfly semi-final heat was taken over by Rachel Kelly with a victorious time of 59.62 seconds. Germany’s Alexandra Wenk was placed second with a mark of 59.73 seconds, while Rino Hosoda of Japan earned third place honours with
an impressive time of 59.75 seconds. In the corresponding meet, Sorribes Ignacio of Spain finished fourth with a mark of 59.81 seconds and Vanessa Mohr of South Africa was placed fifth in a time of 59.87 seconds.
Noemie Thomas of Canada wound up sixth in a time of 59.93 seconds, while Kendyl Stewart of United States of America was placed seventh with a mark of 1 minute and 00.02 seconds. Justine Bruno of France settled eighth in a time of 1 minute and 00.80 seconds.
Last, but not the least, Celina Li of United States of America finished ninth with a mark of 1 minute and 01.14 seconds, while Svetlana Chimrova of Russia was placed tenth in the respective meet with a time of 1 minute and 01.20 seconds.
