Cameron Mcevoy conquers Men’s 100m freestyle title: 2011 FINA World Cup
Young athletes, Cameron Mcevoy of Australia and Jessica Pengelly of South Africa impressed the arena in Singapore, on Friday, November 4. Mcevoy went on to win the Men’s 100m freestyle title, while Pengelly claimed the Women’s 800m freestyle crown.
Cameron Mcevoy knocked out Kyle Richardson of Australia and Jason Dunford of Kenya by thrashing the finishing cordon in a fastest mark of 47.33 seconds to win the Men’s 100m freestyle title over his rivals. His performance fell short of his previous best
mark of 47.16 seconds, set back in July. More importantly, Mcevoy’s effort moved him to seventh place in the world rankings.
Richardson took home the silver medal by touching the finishing line in an impressive time of 47.46 seconds, while Dunford earned bronze title in a time of 47.77 seconds. World champion, Matthew Abood of Australia touched the finishing cordon in a blot of
47.81 seconds to get the fourth position in the respective race, whereas, Jeremy Stravius settled at fifth place in a spot of 47.95 seconds.
China’s Zhiwu Lu earned fifth place honours by clicking the finishing fence in a time of 47.95 seconds, while Yue Hu of China claimed seventh position in a time of 48.81 seconds. Last, but not the least, Andrew Lauterstein of Australia was placed eighth
in a mark of 49.31 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Women’s 800m freestyle title was taken over by South Africa’s Jessica Pengelly in a matchless time of 8 minutes and 22.05 seconds and Sinan Ha of China earned silver medal by posting a time of 8 minutes and 30.82 seconds. The bronze title
went to Anqi Bai of China in a spot of 8 minutes and 43.22 seconds.
Jessica Marston of New Zealand earned fourth place honours by hitting the finishing blockade in a time of 8 minutes and 48.19 seconds, while Allison Brown of United States of America settled at fifth place in a spot of 8 minutes and 48.55 seconds. Yuwen
Teng got sixth position in a time of 8 minutes and 48.68 seconds, whereas, Marissa Brown was kept at seventh spot in a mark of 8 minutes and 54.44 seconds. Finally, Mariya Baklakova of Russia settled eighth in 8 minutes and 58.93 seconds.
