Cameron Meyer to miss the 2012 London Olympics
Cameron Meyer will miss the opportunity to represent Team Australia at the coming Olympic Games.
He helped the team during the 2010 version of the UCI Track World Championships and missed out the 2011 version of the race.
Meyer overcame Great Britain’s Ben Swift during the 40 kilometre Men’s Points Race and secured his first victory of the 2012 season.
The Australian filled his bag with 33 points during the race to claim the top spot while Swift achieved 32 points during the event.
Belgian cyclist, Kenny De Ketele, Aaron Gate of New Zealand and the Spaniard Unai Elorriaga Zubiaur occupied the third, the fourth and the fifth spots during the race.
Cameron explained that his exclusion from the 2012 London Olympics was decided after the team meeting.
"It was a very hard decision to make, but ultimately my passion for the team pursuit isn't 100 per cent," he noted.
"In Melbourne, I achieved what I wanted to on the track through my point’s race win and making the podium for the Madison”.
“I take huge satisfaction from that and now want to see what I can achieve on the road".
Physically and mentally it's quite hard to switch and the last couple of years I've had my focus on the points race and the Madison".
The 24-year-old currently rides for the Australian side, Team GreenEdge after marking his debut in 2009-11 with Team Garmin in the 2009 season.
He spent a period of three years with the team and secured a number of victories during his stay with the side.
Cameron secured as many as 6 Gold, 3Silver and 1Bronze medal under his belt during the World championships.
The Australian claimed the first overall spot during the 2011 version of the Tour Down Under.
He occupied the 10th overall spot during the Tirreno-Adriatico before returning home for the UCI Track World Championships.
He also claimed the stage 1 victory at the race and is targeting to grab more wins during the coming part of the season.
The Australian track team consisting of Jack Bobridge, Rohan Dennis, Glenn O’Shea and Michael Hepburn secured the silver medal last Wednesday.
