Cameron Tringale eyes his first professional victory at the Transitions Championship - Golf News
Cameron Tringale, in search for his first victory on the PGA Tour, fired a five-under par 66 in the opening round of the Transitions Championship at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Florida.
The year 2012 marked the third year for Tringale on the PGA Tour and he is still winless in all the appearances that he has made.
However, he had a confident start to his Transitions Championship campaign and carded a total of six birdies against a lone bogey on the par-three 13th hole.
The interesting moments of his performance include his chip shot from the bunker for a birdie on the second hole and a 40-footer birdie putt on the 17th to tie for the third position on the leaderboard.
Tringale looked pleased with his performance and taking the third spot in the opening round was enough for him to feel confident and relaxed.
"Yeah, it was a nice day," Tringale said. "I did a lot of things well to stay in it. This is a nice course. Short hitters love it, long hitters love it … it's a good test of golf".
He continued, "There's not a lot of holes where you step on the tee and expect to make birdie".
Therefore, carding six birdies in a round is a good achievement, especially for a player who has not performed well in his recent past.
The 24-year-old American is now expecting to add another low score to his 66 in the second round of the event to enter the final 36 holes with confidence.
He said that another good performance can get him close to the top of the leaderboard, which can, in turn, boost his morale to earn his first professional victory of the career.
Meanwhile, Padraig Harrington shot a bogey-free 10-under par 61 to take the first spot on the leaderboard.
Will Claxton was three strokes behind at seven-under par 64, on the second spot on Thursday. He too managed a bogey-free round. Yet, he failed to make enough birdies to stand alongside Harrington.
Harrington had a total of 10 birdies in his opening round against Claxton’s five birdies and an eagle.
