Cameron Van der Burgh and Lotte Friis win their corresponding races in Rome: Sette Colli Trophy
After the impressive show of Halsall, Wildeboer, Atkinson and Jakabos earlier this morning, three more swimmers including Cameron van der Burgh, Lotte Friis and Samuel Pizzetti performed well and won their titles in the Men’s 50m breast-stroke, Women’s 800m
freestyle relay and Men’s 800m freestyle relay events at the 2011 Sette Colli Trophy in Rome, Italy, on June 18.
Firstly, Cameron van der Burgh topped the Men's 50 breast-stroke race with a winning time of 27.62 seconds and moved into the top place in the world rankings. Earlier, he set a world record in the respective event with a fastest time of 27.24 seconds, this
year. Meanwhile, there was a tie match between Hendrik Feldwehr and Fabio Scozzoli with a time of 27.82 seconds.
Next, Lotte Friis took home the Women’s 800m freestyle title with a fastest time of 8 minutes and 25.57 seconds for third spot in the world rankings. Earlier, she set a world record in the corresponding event with a sterling time of 8 minutes and 24.52 seconds.
After nabbing the Women’s 800m freestyle relay crown, Friis was immensely excited and pleased with her performance.
On the other hand, Joanne Jackson grabbed the silver title with a winning time of 8 minutes and 34.54 seconds, while Martina Rita Caramignoli snared bronze in a time of 8 minutes and 36.43 seconds.
The Men’s 800m freestyle relay crown was clinched by Samuel Pizzetti with a victorious time of 7 minutes and 52.68 seconds. He was not able to beat his previous record of 7 minutes and 49.79 seconds, set this year. Sun Yang set the world record in the 800m
freestyle relay event with a sterling time of 7 minutes and 44.12 seconds, earlier this year.
Placed second was Federico Colbertaldo with a time of 7 minutes and 55.34 seconds for his 8th spot in the world rankings and Luca Baggio wound up third in 7 minutes and 56.50 seconds. Rocco Potenza surprisingly finished fourth in a time of 7 minutes
and 58.08 seconds.
