Cameron White confident about Twenty20 captaincy
Cameron White, who is going to lead http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 as a captain for the first time in a Twenty20 International against England on Wednesday in Adelaide, is confident about his abilities as a leader.
White has replaced Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120, who announced his retirement from Twenty20 cricket after the fifth Test Ashes in order to improve his Test and One Day form.
White has an excellent Twenty20 record as a player and averages 36.64 from 23 matches with a strike-rate of 144.50. He has been able to earn two hundreds with a best of 141.
He also plays for Somerset and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
But now his responsibility is far more than just scoring runs.
White is quite determined and he said that he believed he has enough understanding of how Twenty20 cricket works on the field. He said, “Tactically I hope I'm as good as there is, and I guess that is what the selectors have seen".
"I hope I'm successful as a captain but I can't control where that takes me,” White said. White was overjoyed on taking up the captaincy against England and said that it was a great honour to be in-charge of the team and he was looking
forward to the experience.
Currently, White does not have plans for rushing into further captaincy credits in Australian cricket. There is much being said about the future of Ricky Ponting and Michael Clark.
Clarke has been appointed as a captain for much of his career, and is the right man to take over. He has been named as the skipper of the 14-man Australian One Day squad to play against England in seven ODIs.
White said that there are only three or four guys, who have been involved in the Test matches so it will really be a fresh start for this team.
"Hopefully it is a change of format and luck", White said.
White has great challenges ahead, as he will have to take on an in-from England, who will be riding high on confidence after their Ashes success.
The two teams last faced each other in theTwenty20 World Cup final in Barbados. England won that encounter and became the World Twenty20 champions.
Also, England are on a seven match winning streak and if they securing another victory it will be a new world record for them.
England’s sequence of success includes last year’s Twenty20 World Cup, when they thrashed Australia in the final.
Michael Yardy, the England left-arm spinner and middle-order batsman, commented that their winning streak record has not been discussed much. He added that England team have the opportunity to achieve a new winning streak record, but it was not the main
focus. Rather, England will be focusing on continuing their tour in a successful manner.
Yardy is a new comer to the tour and has joined specifically for the limited-overs matches. Before his international career he had been playing Twenty20 cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Central-Districts-c777. He finished with figures of 3 for 33 against the Prime
Minsiter’s XI in Canberra.
"The boys are buzzing, obviously. After winning a series like that they are going to be. It's nice to be a part of it. You fit in very well; it's a good environment to come into”, said Yardy.
He added, “There is a lot of love in the group at the moment and whether that brings results or it's the results that bring the team closer together I am not too sure. But certainly everyone is happy".
