Cameron White questions Australian selection policy – Cricket News Update
Australian Twenty20 captain, Cameron White, has questioned the selection policy of the current Australian selectors after they opted to name four uncapped players for the upcoming test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
White was puzzled by the selection of some of the players, namely off-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045.
Ironically, Lyon was picked in the Test squad after a good display in the One-Day format, while he sat out the two four-day matches against Zimbabwe, where http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Beer-c1949 and Jason Krejza played as slow bowling options for the team.
However, chairman of selector, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Mark-Jefferson-Hilditch-c44498, decided to include Lyon straight into the Test squad, leaving many to question his decision.
When quizzed about the selection of Lyon and Co, White answered in a bemused manner.
He said, "I guess if you are in the right place at the right time you can be picked.”
"If you are in form and the selectors view that you are the right man for the job they can pick you. It seems as though the door is open for everyone in first-class cricket, one day cricket, and Twenty20 cricket to play Test cricket, if that makes any sense,” White further added.
White, who was dropped out of the limited overs squad, will only have 2 T20’s matches to show the selectors his worth.  His exclusion came after a disappointing World Cup showing, where he failed to impress in any of the matches.
He remained on as the T20 skipper but expressed his disappointment by describing his omission from the ODI setup as a “kick in the guts.”
The selecting panel of Hilditch and national talent manager http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gregory-Stephen-Chappell-c60820 has been working to guide Australia to their former glory.  Both have come under considerable pressure in recent days as they hope that blending in a few youngsters would help the team achieve immediate success.
On the announcement of the Test squad, Hilditch said, “We're picking the best team for Australia, but we need some experienced players, which we think we have got, and we also need to find a couple of new champions in the next couple of years."
The first T20 of the tour of Sri Lanka takes place on August 6, 2011 at Pallekele.
