Cameron White wants Australia to build on 6-1 England drubbing
The stand-in Aussie captain, Cameron White, who led his team to a resounding win over the English team in the last One Day International (ODI) match of the seven match series at the WACA in Perth, feels that the world champions need
to do a lot more if they are to retain the coveted trophy for the fourth time in a row.
The Aussies are unbeaten in the World Cup since 1999, when they lost a group match to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at Leeds they have not dropped even a single match. Despite, their recent run of poor results before the English series, they are a serious
contender for the biggest prize in ODI cricket.
White thinks that there are certain chinks in their armour that need to be fixed before the ICC 2011 World Cup campaign begins.
"It's good to go in winning rather than losing, clearly, but I still think there's a bit of improvement left", he said.
The ODI series have meanwhile washed off some of the disappointment of the Ashes campaign where the hosts were rolled over by a margin of 3-1.
The youngsters and new players in the squad failed to make an impression in the longest format of the game yet found it much easier to adapt to the ODI format.
The Aussies introduced many players from the fringe into the One Day side have and they came up with some good performances. Most notably, Shaun Marsh, and, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Voges-c925, who scored an unbeaten 80 in the Perth win.
Besides them the spinning duo of Jason Krejza and Xavier Doherty, made a good impression and showed that they have the potential to gust it out at the top level of the game against some formidable opposition.
The regulars in the ODI team also had a decent run, with Mike Hussey’s brother David Hussey playing a stellar role along with Voges today.
The two added crucial runs for the fifth wicket and rescued their team from a tricky position to take them to a real strong position in the game.
The 33-year old, younger Hussey was recalled to the One Day side after a 17-month absence from the format.
His strong performances in the series would give him real confidence after he made the cut for the World Cup squad, which was announced after the first match of the series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
White is impressed by his performance. He thinks that Hussey can play a pivotal role in the middle order. The added advantage of having the veteran in the team is that he can tweak the ball a fair way with his off-spinners.
"The one thing is every time he bats for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 he looks more comfortable and looks like he belongs there", White said. "We actually said it in the changing room when he was batting today, that he looks like he really belongs. To
have that sort player, who is so good against spin bowling, it's a good thing for the team".
The Australians would be carrying serious momentum in the tournament and their performances against England are a warning to the rest of the teams, who bid to get past them in the prestigious event.
