Cameron Wurf to ride with the Professional Continental side, Team Champion-System in the 2012 season
Cameron Wurf was left shattered after Team Liquigas-Cannondale excluded his name from its 2012 roster.
The cyclist had a disappointing start to his 2011 season and was unfortunate to miss out on the two Grand Tours last year.
A stomach virus ruined his chances at the Tour de France 2011, which was followed by a fracture rib that prevented the Australian from making his Vuelta a Espana debut.
Wurf started cycling professionally in 2008 with Team Volksbank and stayed with the side for a period of one year.
He spent a year each with Team Fuji-Servetto (2009) and Team Androni Giocattoli (2010).
The 28-year-old accepted an offer from the Italian side, Team Liquigas-Cannondale in 2011 and was keen to continue his 2012 season with the side.
He missed most of the season because of the illness and the injury, which was the main reason behind his deteriorating performance during the past season.
Cameron’s only considerable performance in 2011 was the 5th place finish at the Tour of Turkey 2011.
His other major achievements include the first place finish at the Oceania Games and the Chrono Champenois 2007.
The cyclist has now signed up with the Professional Continental side, Team Champion System for the coming season. The team was founded in 2010 and it had an impressive start to its 2012 season.
It secured a number of victories, including the stage 4 win at the Tour dew Korean 2011 and a 1st place finish at the Jurmala GP.
Mart Ojavee helped the side with an overall victory at the Estonia Road Race Championships 2011 while Deon Locke claimed the 4th stage at the Tour of Hainan 2011.
He commented on the time spent with the former team, "I was in pretty much every breakaway every day and did way too much work".
He continued, "I wasn't even thinking of trying to get a result and in the end when I was in a position to get one, I was tired. So that attitude really backfired on me as opposed to racing the race. Then I got sick and everything unravelled".
Wurf is now targeting the Vuelta a Espana 2012 and he will ride the Eneco Tour and the Tour of Poland to ensure his best form before the Spanish Grand Tour.
